Teachers accused of sexually abusing children in their custody will now be subjected to double disciplinary action following the launch of the HIV/Aids tribunal.
The Teachers Service Commission officer in charge of wellness section Magdalene Mwele said the launch of the tribunal, a product of the HIV/Aids Act 2010, will enhance the commission’s response in dealing with Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) resulting from sexual abuse perpetuated by teachers.
She was speaking in Kakamega during a workshop for a network of teachers living positively adding that sexual offenses by teachers will now be addressed at two levels.
She said through a partnership with the HIV tribunal, teachers who knowingly infect their partners with HIV/Aids, will have their cases dealt with by both the TSC and the HIV tribunal.
