World javelin champion Julius Yego was on Sunday night involved in a grisly road accident in Eldoret.
Yego was in his brand new Toyota Prado when the accident happened along Kapsoya road near Equity Bank at around 10pm.
He was rushed to the Mediheal Hospital in Eldoret Town amid uncertainty on his condition. However, later on, the World record holder posted on Facebook that he was in stable condition after undergoing several tests at the hospital.
“God is living and great!am ok my people ! Can’t believe am alive!@mungu yupo!!am in stable condition!” Yego wrote on Facebook.
World 1,500 metres champion Asbel Kiprop, who was among the first people to arrive at the scene, told a local daily, “he (Yego) is okay only that doctors advised he should relax till morning.”
Yego’s sports utility vehicle (SUV), which was one week old, was badly damaged in the accident.
The Toyota Prado was towed to the Eldoret Central Police Station by police who arrived at the scene on Sunday.
