Elizabeth Wanjiru Kang'ethe was on Friday sworn in as the Mayor of Barking and Dagenham in the UK after being elected unopposed in February this year.The former school teacher from Kiambu County in Kenya. She was elected on a labor ticket.
She has been the Councillor of Parside ward since 2010.She joins a group of Kenyans holding elective positions in the UK.
They are; Mayor Adul Mohamed, Mayor of Southwark. Councillor Abdul Razak Osman, councillor for Charnwood Ward, Leiceter, Mary Kiruthi, Councillor for Townstal Ward in Dartmouth and Councillor David Munyambu for Basildon Ward in Essex.
