| Mombasa city under threat just as several other cities in the world |
Cabinet Secretary for Water and Environment Prof. Judy Wakhungu has said that Mombasa Island and parts of Kenyan Coast could be submerged under sea by 2034 if urgent measures are not taken .
Water levels could submerge the whole coastal city, according to a report by a parliamentary Inter-Governmental Panel On Climate Change (IPCC).
Professor Wakhungu was speaking to residents of Magarini in Kilifi County on Friday where she added that there is a genuine threat of coastal habitats and small islands being non-existent And cited Watamu and Ngomeni which have already been affected by rising sea water levels.
She added that global warming is a major threat to mankind and that urgent and workable measures be taken.
