Zhao's mother abandoned her when signs of the bizarre skin condition emerged last year and the youngster started sprouting black fur.
The condition - which has puzzled medics - began when Zhao was aged just five, with a small patch of discolored skin on her back. But it has since spread to cover her entire back and buttocks and is now making its way onto her face, arms and shoulders too.
Her family says that her skin problem has caused alarm in the Chinese village of Changshan near Luzhou City in Sichuan province.
But teachers in the local kindergarten helped her gain acceptance from the other children by telling them it was just a mole. Zhao now makes sure she keeps her body covered to avoid people's cruel stares.
