All passengers and crew on board an Air Algerie jetliner that crashed in Mali died in the tragedy, which completely wiped out several families.
This report was passed by the French Government. France bore the brunt of the disaster, with about 54 French nationals among the overall death toll of between 116 and 118, according to reports by the carrier and French authorities.
Travelers from Burkina Faso, Lebanon, Algeria, Spain, Canada, Germany and Luxembourg also died in the crash, blamed on bad weather that forced the pilots to change course.
The French army released initial images of a scene of total devastation with fragments of the McDonnell Douglas 83 jet all over a scorched earth in what is clearly a barren and remote environment. The debris was barely seen to have been of the ill-fated plane.
