A giraffe on transit in a trailer has died painfully after hitting its head on a motorway bridge. The bizarre scene of two giraffes on the highway was photographed by several witnesses in Centurion, South Africa.
The two animals were clearly visible as their heads stuck out of the top of a trailer being pulled by a truck. Motorists then watch in horror as one of the animals hit its head on a motorway bridge as the vehicle passed under.
Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ Rick Allan told the newspaper a vet examined the animals and confirmed one died due to "severe head trauma".
The Citizen newspaper claims to have spoken to the giraffe's owner who said the animals had been able to crane their necks beneath bridges. Pabi Moloi one of the witnesses who photographed the incident said he was getting shots as the truck went under a bridge and suddenly one of the giraffes hit its head hard on the concrete.
