Machakos County Governor Dr Alfred Mutua’s breakaway from the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) seems almost certain after his frequent opposing positions on issues at the center of the Opposition alliance’s political strategy.
he has in recent occasions shown vocal opposition to a series of CORD rallies including the much-publicized Saba Saba rally on July 7.Despite having been elected through Wiper Democratic Party which is an affiliate of Cord, Mutua has been seen to sing the tune of Jubilee urging his people to focus on development other than concentrate in mere politicking.
burial of retired former Chief of General Staff Jackson Mulinge, Mutua
made a grand entry into the arena side by side with President Kenyatta.
Observers believe his grand arrival at the venue was calculated to send a
key political statement that he was ahead in the pecking order,
arriving after other politicians had reported earlier to usher the
President into the venue.
And throughout the ceremony, Mutua sat next to, and occasionally chatted
with the President. He appeared to have little time for CORD principals
Raila Odinga, Moses Wetang’ula and Kalonzo who sat barely five meters
to his left.
