President Uhuru Kenyatta left nothing to chance when he toured the Coast. n a bid to scuttle the referendum called by CORD and the Council of Governors. Kenyatta met ODM rebels at State House, Mombasa, in an aim to contain the significant political influence of ODM leader Raila Odinga and his key followers at the Coast,Mombasa Governor Hassan Ali Joho and Senator Hassan Omar. the president dodged Kilifi County, including Governor Amason Kingi and Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya, who support calls for a vote to change the Constitution. The President gave Kilifi County Assembly a wide berth. Of its 53 members, 51 are from ODM, and are in support of a referendum. This showed a demonstration of the President’s strategic interest in Kwale County, he invited Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) from the county to State House to dissuade them from supporting the referendum. Kwale County has an ODM governor, who has also been in support of the ruling Jubilee coalition, but supports the referendum called by the Council of Governors.
