In this month's issue of best selling magazine True Love, TPF winner Ruth Matete opens up about her sad childhood. She talks about her parents divorce and having to live with a stepfather who physically assaulted her.
“My stepdad on the other hand hated me. He would beat me up and my mama wasn’t spared the beatings either. I wasn’t enrolled in school at all. I was required to do the housework and I was barely a child myself. I would cook, fetch water and firewood while taking care of my siblings. I had never worn shoes.”
She later moved to Nairobi to live with her father and his step wife who also started mistreating her. They however divorced later over her and her dad vowed never to marry again. She has since had a happy life apart from when her mother died after she came to live with her dad in Nairobi.
