The five were suffering from different illnesses and had attended the Prophet’s crusade seeking healing.
According to Nakuru OCPD, the five died of natural causes and their bodies were rushed to Nakuru County mortury.
The crusade is scheduled to take place for three days.
Meanwhile, four people died Thursday morning in an accident in Maanzoni area, Machakos County along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway after their car rolled. Three of the boys were cousins while the fourth one their friend and they were leaving Machakos Park for Nairobi when the accident happened at about 6 am.
Police said the victims had ushered in the 2015 and were leaving Machakos for Nairobi’s Embakasi area where they stayed when the accident happened. Traffic Commandant Charlton Muriithi said their salon car rolled off the main highway killing two on the spot.
Two others died in hospital. “We are informed there were seven passengers in the car when it rolled and unfortunately four died,” said Muriithi. It rose the number of those killed this year to nine. Others were killed in Nairobi and Naivasha –Nakuru highway.
Police say the Machakos accident happened after the driver lost control of the car and rolled into a ditch and that three others were injured and taken to hospital. The National Transport and Safety Authority said in overall, fatal accidents reduced by nine percent in 2014 representing 311 cases. Last year, 5,140 people were seriously injured in accidents as compared to 6,289 for 2013 representing a drop by 18 percent while 3,971 were slightly injured last year as compared to 4,837 in 2013 representing eight percent drop. NTSA Director for Road Safety Mathew Munyao said in total there were 12,018 accidents in 2014 as compared to 14,344 for 2013 which is a reduction by 16.2 percent.
“It was through our hard work collectively that we had the drop in accidents in general. We hope to register better results this year,” said Munyao. He also added more than 40 people were arrested in the eve of the New Year in various road blocks mounted by the police and NTSA officials. The operations were conducted in Nairobi, Machakos, Kitale and Mombasa. Those who were arrested were booked but some were freed on cash bail ahead of their arraignment on Friday.
