SEE THE MILLIONS OF SHILLINGS IEBC COMMISSIONERS WILL TAKE HOME AFTER RESIGNING

Embattled IEBC bosses will pocket a friendly KSh330 million after their untimely exit from the polls body.

Reports indicate that each of the five commissioners will pocket KSh36.6 million, reports Business Daily, basing its statistics on annual budget estimates

The package includes salaries they would have earned until November 2017 when their term ends as well as gratuity earnings.

The six commissioners who include its chairman Issack Hassan and vice-Chairperson Lilian Bokeeye on Wednesday, August 3, bowed to pressure from Kenya’s opposition party, Orange Democratic Movement(ODM) who had vowed to boycott next years general elections if the latter failed to resign.

The eight commissioners met a parliamentary committee on electoral reforms in Nairobi and after negotiations, opted for a political settlement on condition that no charges will be initiated against them when they leave office.

The commissioners were employed in the year 2011 for a six-year contract but their stay had been riddled with controversy from the procuring of BVR kits, bribery allegations and being biased.

Raila Odinga and his luminaries have been the most vocal to push for the resignation of the commissioners.Just a few months, they staged protests on every Monday to push the Issac Hassan led-team out of office.

The protests targeted areas where Coalition for Reforms and Democracy(CORD) commands huge popularity mostly in Nairobi,Kisumu, Mombasa,Siaya,Busia,Kakamega and some parts of Nakuru.

During the protests, some of their supporters have been killed or injured with the incident becoming a recipe for chaos that the polls custodians tried to avoid.

Their credibility had also become questionable.

The exit of the poll’s commissioners is expected to disrupt the next year’s elections which may be pushed further due to the logistic aspects, extensive recruitment, and political interference.

CORD has always accused the commissioners of rigging the presidential elections and favouring the current ruling government.

Raila Odinga has maintained that he will be vying for presidency where he will be facing off President Uhuru Kenyatta who will be fighting to retain his seat.
