POOR MATHS PERFOMANCE FORCES EDUCATION CS FRED MATIANGI TO ANNOUNCE NEW SCHOOL RE-OPENING DATE


Some 300 public Primary Schools across the country have been ordered to re-open before December 2016, in a move aimed at improving performance in the Mathematics subject in lower classes.

Through his Permanent Secretary (PS) Belio Kipsang, Education CS Fred Matiang'i disclosed that 21,095 Class 2 pupils from across the country will report to their respective schools between November 28 and 30, to take part in a study aimed at improving the quality of the subject.

The Ministry disclosed that it sampled primary schools performing poorly in Mathematics before they settled on the 300.

In a letter dated November 15, directed to Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia, the CS requested Ms Macharia to inform all head teachers and senior teachers to report to their schools if they were among those sampled.
