Addressing head teachers at the Catholic University on Thursday, Kenyatta affirmed that he was fully behind a decision by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) to slash salaries to curb the country's wage bill.
“I fully support the recommendation of SRC that has cut the salaries of public servants from the President all the way down,” he stated.
SEE ALSO: Girl Arrested in connection with IEBC Manager Chris Msando's MurderHe blasted the MPs for calling for a pay rise maintaining that they were servants of the public and knew the amounts they were set to receive when campaigning for the seat. “We are not masters but servants of the people from myself as President to the police, teachers and others. There cannot be a class of citizens in Kenya who believe that they are servants more than all of you,” he asserted.
The Head of State vowed that if his win is confirmed by the Supreme Court, he would not sign any Bill increasing MPs' salaries. “As we await the Supreme Court ruling, if it rules in my favour I am saying before you, I swear I shall not sign it. We are not on the same page on that,” he declared.

Kiraithe added that there was no single person in this world "who has the power to decide how much they are remunerated." SRC had in July slashed the legislators' wages from Sh710,000 to Sh621,000 and also scrapped some allowances including sitting and mileage allowances.
Earlier in the week, Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga and other lawmakers triggered the salary debate after opposing the Commission's proposal.
