President Uhuru Kenyatta has assured Miraa farmers that the ban on the crop by the UK will be lifted. The head of state said that he cannot ignore such a matter adding that he is well aware that the crop is the source of livelihood to hundreds of thousands of people from Meru and the larger Mount Kenya region.
Kenyatta said that the miraa issue will be taken to the highest level possible saying that already members of Parliament from the region had taken the matter to court adding that his administration is keen to make sure that the people of Meru are protected and a lasting solution reached.
Meru Governor Peter Munya said that the UK ban on the stimulant was not based on any evidence of social or medical harm.
