A woman in Nyeri narrated a painful ordeal she went through in the hands of police 13 years ago.The mother of one said that she was at matatu stage called Piai waiting to board a matatu when a personal
vehicle pulled up and the occupants called out to her. She knew one of
them who was a policewoman.
They ordered her to get in and drove her to Karatina Police Station
where they handed her to eight officers from the Flying Squad. She narrated how the officers stripped her naked, bludgeoned her and, worst of all, inserted a soda bottle into her private parts. She was arrested on allegations that she had some involvement with a Mr.Bernard Kibang’a, a man they were looking for over claims of counterfeit money. The high Court in Embu ordered that she be paid a compensation of Shs.10,000,000 but she has not been paid a single cent to date. She has sought the help of International Medico and Legal Unit (IMLU) as well as the Kenya National Human Rights Commission. She now calls on the government to help her in her woes.
